Affordable
Homeownership Interfaith Housing promotes various methods on the path
of homeownership. Our main program is self-help housing, where
participants build their own homes. Self-Help
The Self-Help program provides affordable
homeownership by replacing the traditional 10% down payment with sweat
equity. Participants work 30 hours a week toward the construction
of their home which may take nearly one year. These families work alongside
their future neighbors in building each other's homes and
community.
Financing is provided by the USDA at lower rates
than conventional lenders.
Revitalization
Interfaith has employed many
methods to help people become homeowners. This includes new
construction, sweat equity programs, remodeling old buildings and
modular homes. In some places, we can purchase old, vacant buildings
and convert them into safe and affordable homes. We have also assisted
people to stay in their homes by making critical repairs or by removing
lead paint.
