Homeownership
It has long been recognized that when families own their own homes, they connect better with their communities.
While homeownership rates are at an all-time high, the prosperity isn’t reaching everyone.
Interfaith Housing helps low and moderate income people become homeowners using strategies appropriate to each community.
We achieve this through rehabilitation, modular housing, and self-help
housing.
Affordable Senior Rental
A
new crop of assisted living complexes are springing up in Western Maryland and
Pennsylvania to provide homes for the growing number of seniors. But these complexes do little to help seniors of modest means. Without a more affordable option, many have been forced to move far from their hometowns, far from their friends and families.
Affordable Family Rental
In
any society, there is no group more important than the family. Skyrocketing
rents mean that parents have to work overtime or to work more than one job just to make ends meet. By providing affordable apartments to rent in decent, livable neighborhoods, Interfaith Housing is helping to restore family ties. Attractive homes, safe play areas, and dedicated volunteers who coordinate community get-togethers ensure that families can spend the time together that they need to grow.
Domestic Violence and Homeless Shelters
For
some women and children, home has become a place of violence and fear.
But how do you escape when there is nowhere to go? Interfaith Housing works with
its sister not-for-profit organizations to provide safe havens. Shelters for victims of domestic violence provide secure and comfortable living spaces for women and their children. And for the truly homeless
individuals, winter brings the risk of freezing to death on the street.
With our not-for-profit operating partners, Interfaith Housing has developed three shelters. The shelters, once constructed or renovated, are owned and operated by organizations with expertise in providing services and care to those among us who need basic housing while trying to restore their lives.
